About the Team

The Structural Stress Engineering is responsible for substantiating the structural integrity of all new product development or production design activities. To accomplish this, detailed structural analyses and static and fatigue testing of components, assemblies, and full-scale aircraft are performed. Analysts perform stress analysis and fatigue & damage tolerance evaluations in review of engineering drawings and write reports to show compliance with the FAA regulations.

Preferred knowledge in the following areas

Knowledge of design configuration, design criteria including FAR Part 25 regulations, internal and external loads, material properties and stress analysis techniques are used to structurally substantiate airframe components.

Preferred degree programs

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines:

  • Aerospace Engineering

  • Civil Engineering

  • Structural Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Must be available to work on-site in Savannah, GA during the Summer 2027 semester, beginning in May 2027.

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (without rounding); must be listed on resume.

Desired skills

  • Stress Analysis (Metallics and/or composites)

  • Finite Element Modeling – FEM/FEA (Nastran/Patran/Abaqus/Ansys/others)

  • Fatigue & Damage Tolerance

  • Catia V5 (computer aided design/drafting)

  • Coding/scripting (Matlab, Python, C++)

Preferred list of classes taken/planned

  • Statics

  • Mechanics of Materials

  • Structural Analysis (preferred)

  • Finite Element Analysis (preferred)

  • Structural Design (preferred)

  • Structural Test Lab (preferred)

Hobbies that may align well with this role

  • Passion for airplanes

  • Desire to understand how aircraft are designed and built to optimize performance

  • Interest in structural testing with experience in Structural/Material Labs (Strength and durability testing)
