Information System Technician

Routt County Information Technology

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional and technical information systems duties in the Information Technology Department (ITD); assists in providing Helpdesk and desktop user technical support services across all County departments to troubleshoot and resolve computer and network related problems; performs general support tasks such as installing software, imaging machines, maintaining equipment inventories, repairing peripheral equipment and adding system users; and performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not prevent the assignment of work that is appropriately related to this class.

•Performs Tier 1 helpdesk and desktop support activities; responds to customer service requests submitted via a ticketing system, by email, or through user phone calls; provides support for computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.

•Communicates with customers to obtain information and determine the nature, severity, and priority of the problem; conducts troubleshooting activities, either remotely or by onsite investigation; resolves the problem or refers to higher-level staff.

•Assists with software tasks and projects such as configuring virus software, installing upgrades, researching software problems, installing, and configuring customer software on new machines, resetting passwords, and creating/maintaining disk image files.

•Assists with building operating system and software images for various personal computer models and department needs; applies images by installing software on machines; transfers user data; replaces equipment.

•Assists with routine hardware, peripheral, and other equipment tasks; moves machines and equipment; replaces failed hardware components; resolves printer jams and errors; replaces obsolete equipment in compliance with the ITD pool equipment replacement and disposal process.

•Assists in purchasing equipment or services and maintaining the ITD computer equipment inventory; communicates with hardware, software, and other service vendors to determine equipment or service needed and obtain pricing; prepares purchase requisitions for new equipment; receives and tags ordered items; arranges for recycling of old equipment.

•Assists with the development and maintenance of system and software documentation, including operational and end user policies and procedures; updates documentation with system changes and adjustments.

•Creates and utilizes forms, databases, spreadsheets, activity logs, or other tools to track and maintain information; locates, retrieves, and compiles data from manual or computerized information systems; assembles and consolidates information from multiple sources.

•Types and/or prepares letters, memoranda, forms, labels, requisitions, receipts, and other documents using a computer, printer, typewriter, or other input devices; completes various forms to process requests or claims; creates charts, tables, or other graphics; prepares various operational and project status reports for management.

•Assists in maintaining organized and accurate departmental files and records; creates new files and filing systems as required.

•Performs general mathematical and financial calculations.

•Attends meetings and training as required.

•Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

Completion of 15 semester (or equivalent) college units in computer science or a related field.

Experience:

Two years of progressively responsible paraprofessional information technology experience that included desktop customer support.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

•A valid license to drive a vehicle in Colorado and a safe driving record is required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

•A+ and Network+ certifications are desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

•Background checks may be required.
