Overview
Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Staff Specialist - Procurement and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will negotiate, award, and administer major cost-type and fixed-price subcontracts of a critical and complex nature for the procurement of construction, technical and scientific services, nuclear waste handling, and mining equipment. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role assumes full responsibility for planning, implementing, and executing significant long-term and short-term business and technical management programs. Key duties include interfacing with technical organizations to develop pre-procurement plans that ensure timely, cost-effective acquisitions, as well as directing the day-to-day execution of specialized department programs and resolving operational conflicts. Additionally, the individual will serve as an expert spokesperson on major business matters involving financial, customer, and employee relations. Responsibilities also encompass developing vital, high-visibility business plans and long-term objectives, conducting complex business analyses using advanced software applications, mentoring junior procurement personnel, and contributing to the formulation and review of company-wide acquisition policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with fifteen (15) years of acquisition experience, or
-
Associate’s degree with nineteen (19) years of acquisition experience, or
-
High School Diploma or Equivalency with twenty-three (23) years of acquisition experience is required.

Must be 18 years of age.

Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Preferred Requirements
-
Experience in procurement and subcontracting in Federal Contract Management working with Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) including knowledge and understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Department of Energy Acquisition Regulations (DEAR) is preferred.

CPM, CPCM, CPFM, Core, DAIWA Certifications are desired.
Salary Range
$114,912 to $201,044 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 34-36. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
