Full job description
San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Supervising Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to supervise, coordinate, and direct the operations of a team of technicians utilizing the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain a wide variety of maps, data and geospatial information products. The incumbent will provide full-scope supervision to the team, directing project progress and reinforcing quality assurance; resolving personnel problems. In some departments, this position may provide managerial direction to the Lead GIS Technician (III).
A vacancy currently exists in the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk's Office. The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must meet ONE (1) of the Requirement Options in order to qualify.
REQUIREMENT OPTION 1Experience: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and data visualization products, which includes two (2) years utilizing Esri’s desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) products and ArcGIS Online.

- AND - - Lead Experience: One (1) year as a project lead or supervisory experience overseeing the work of staff. (Experience may be concurrent.) REQUIREMENT OPTION 2Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed coursework from an accredited** college or university in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, and/or surveying -OR- certificate in GIS** from an accredited program. Transcripts and/or Certification MUST be attached to the application in order to qualify.

- AND - - Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and data visualization products, which includes experience utilizing Esri’s desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) products and ArcGIS Online.

**Qualifying degrees and coursework must be conferred by institutions accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Degrees earned outside the United States must be accompanied by an evaluation from a recognized credential evaluation service verifying U.S. equivalency. You might be a great fit for this position if you possess:• Strong professional experience utilizing Esri’s GIS platform, especially desktop applications such as ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro and familiarity with ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS.
- Successful history of leading GIS technicians and seeing projects through to completion.
- Ability to direct multiple projects at once and pivot in changing environments.
- Professional experience working for or with a public agency in support of GIS projects for public agencies.
