Job Summary

The Research Engineer III provides advanced technical and engineering support to ensure the accuracy, precision, and reliability of measurement and testing equipment used in research, laboratory, manufacturing, and industrial environments. This position performs and evaluates calibration activities in accordance with established standards, protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements to maintain the integrity of measurement systems. The Research Engineer III applies engineering principles and technical expertise to assess equipment and system performance, identify potential issues, and support reliable research and testing operations. This position collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate system performance and support the successful execution of research and technical objectives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up and prepares instruments and equipment for calibration procedures and ensures the proper handling, storage, and protection of sensitive equipment.

  • Performs calibration procedures in accordance with established protocols and applicable national and international standards, including ISO/IEC 17025 and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requirements.

  • Accurately records calibration results and maintains complete and detailed calibration records, reports, and supporting documentation.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions, measurement inconsistencies, and inaccuracies identified during calibration and testing processes.

  • Performs necessary adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to correct calibration deviations and ensure equipment accuracy and reliability.

  • Maintains calibration schedules and prioritizes calibration activities based on equipment usage, criticality, established timelines, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Assists with the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of calibration procedures, testing methods, processes, and technical documentation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
