Our client is looking for an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations and lead a high-performing accounting team in Hampton, New Hampshire. This role reports to the Vice President of Finance and plays a central part in maintaining accurate records, delivering meaningful financial reporting, and supporting sound business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, a solid command of accounting processes, and the ability to improve efficiency across budgeting, reporting, and day-to-day financial management.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close activities, including oversight of the general ledger, reconciliations, and intercompany accounting across a portfolio of related entities.

  • Prepare and review financial reports that highlight operating results, cash positions, cost performance, and profit or loss trends for leadership review.

  • Ensure the integrity of accounting records by monitoring transactions, validating balances, and maintaining accurate financial and operational documentation.

  • Coordinate budgeting and forecasting activities by consolidating financial inputs, updating planning data in systems, and explaining notable variances.

  • Partner with senior leadership to evaluate financial performance, identify opportunities to use resources more effectively, and strengthen internal controls.

  • Provide analysis of historical and current financial information to support planning, decision-making, and performance discussions with management.

  • Supervise and develop a team of four accounting professionals, setting priorities, reviewing work, and supporting ongoing growth and accountability.

  • Recommend process improvements that enhance reporting quality, operational efficiency, and overall financial oversight.

Requirements • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within an accounting function.

  • Strong knowledge of general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.

  • Experience preparing financial reports and supporting financial statement audits.

  • Ability to manage accounting activities across multiple entities with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proven experience overseeing staff and guiding team performance in a detail-oriented finance environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial results, budgets, and cost trends.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly to senior leadership.
