Full job description

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and A minimum of eight (8) years of engineering work experience in the design and application of engineering principles in area of expertise. Experience should be acceptable to NY State for P.E. examination eligibility. or

  • Master's Degree With a bachelor's degree in engineering and A minimum of six (6) years of engineering work experience in the design and application of engineering principles in area of expertise. Experience should be acceptable to NY State for P.E. examination eligibility.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering

Relevant Work Experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to diplomatically interact with internal and external customers, support staffs and various levels of management, required.

  • Comfortable working in and around steam, including field visits and on-site engineering support & knowledge of relevant corporate environmental and safety procedures, required.

  • Effective at presenting technical information and representing Distribution Engineering to other departments, non-technical groups and executives, required.

  • Strong knowledge of the appropriate Engineering and Operating Procedures and Engineering Specifications & ability to understand and review engineering sketches, drawings, maps, plates, and loose-leaf (as built), required.

  • Ability to provide guidance in the creation of these drawings and schematics & demonstrate proficiency with Computer applications, required.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to vendor sites and attend conferences, required.

  • Able to respond to field requests and emergencies during off hours, required.

  • Supervisory experience of professional and/or union employees, preferred.

  • Experience with purchase specification development and vendor management, preferred.

  • Develops and delivers effective presentations

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure

Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to system emergencies

  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs

  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday

  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies

  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed, required.

  • Comfortable working in active steam facilities, required.
