The HVAC Pipefitter Journeyman is responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing piping systems associated with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role requires advanced knowledge of piping layouts, blueprint reading, and mechanical systems, ensuring all work complies with local codes, safety standards, and project specifications

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams to determine layout and installation procedures.

• Cut, thread, groove, weld, and braze pipes using hand and power tools.

• Install and connect piping systems to HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and pumps.

• Test piping systems for leaks using pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools.

• Collaborate with other trades (e.g., electricians, sheet metal workers) to ensure coordinated installation.

• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

• Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA regulations at all times.

• Troubleshoot and repair piping systems as needed.

Qualifications:

• Valid Local 533 Journeyman Pipefitter license or certification

• OSHA 30 Training.

• Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in HVAC piping systems.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.

• Skilled in various piping materials (e.g., copper, steel, PVC) and joining methods.

• Familiarity with HVAC systems including chilled water, condenser water, steam, and hydronic heating.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

• Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform manual labor.

Required Education/Experience: • High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years of HVAC level operation, maintenance & repair experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade. Competencies: • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques, electrical circuits and wiring, operating principles of motors, and local electrical codes. • Communicate effectively with internal team and customers. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. • Diagnose and resolve problems, follow written and verbal instructions, read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material, and perform math. • Ability to use hand and power tools. • Valid driver's license

Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other HVAC equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work. Work Environment This job operates primarily alone on HVAC and boiler equipment in all environments, which includes extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year. Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
