Accepting Applications from: All Persons Interested Service Line/Section: Houston Permitting Center/Occupancy Inspections Reporting Location: 1002 Washington Avenue Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm* Subject to change

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs a variety of paraprofessional support involved in the acceptance, review, and dissemination of a wide variety of building permit applications and documents. Provides information to customers on building permit requirements, codes, ordinances and inspection procedures.• Researches, analyzes, and resolves internal and external customer problems and inquiries face to face, via telephone and through email.

  • Prepares documentation for permit applications, inspections, and cancellation actions.
  • Assists customers with scheduling inspections and inspection inquiries.
  • Records, logs, compiles, and maintains various permit related files data, documents, plans and reports.
  • Understands the functions of all sections of Building Code Enforcement and responds to customers questions on procedure application requirements and status of permit application.
  • Recognizes permit system issues and submits Service Now Tickets and/or procedure facilitates remedies.
  • Determines and calculates various permit fees.
  • Appropriately screens customers concerns by providing assistance in English and/or Spanish by utilizing, email, phone calls, Q-Flow, and Live Chat.
  • Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. In the Houston Permitting Center, the position may require lifting of moderately heavy items, such as plans (up to 40 pounds).EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two years of experience as a Permit Technician Aide or in customer service are required.

An Associate degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS NonePreference shall be given to applicants with experience in customer service. The use of ILMS, Q-Flow, and/or Microsoft Office Environment. Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Live Chat.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.* SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer a skills assessment evaluation.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION: No If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

Pay Grade 15
