Position is located: Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital

Work Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40 Hours per Week

Work Schedule: 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Salary Range : $ 17.00 - $24.15

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Director or Charge Nurse, the OPSU Secretary is responsible for completing necessary requisitions and performing clerical and receptionist duties, requisitioning supplies, equipment and services from other departments, maintaining contact with waiting patients and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Communication a. Utilizes customer friendly telephone skills exhibited by friendly greeting, modulated voice and calm demeanor. b. Demonstrates welcoming atmosphere, exhibited by rapid response to inquiries, direct eye contact, appropriate facial expressions. c. Makes calls to aid flow of schedule as requested by Charge Nurse d. Communicates "stat" orders to RN calmly, efficiently and rapidly e. Utilizes problem solving skills to alleviate communication obstacles f. Utilized appropriate lines of communication g. Utilizes problem solving skills to alleviate communication obstacles. Responsibilities a. Enters orders in the computer system timely and accurately b. Prepares patient charts and other records, forms or unit requirements c. Arranges consults as ordered d. Obtains prior medical records when requested e. Orders supplies f. Participates in unit quality indicator tracking as requested per Nurse Manager g. Maintains a neat, organized work space h. Accurately files pre-admission work-up data and consent forms in patient's chart i. Maintains 3 month "surgery hold" file and assesses on a monthly basis j. Enters patient charges accurately and within 24 hours of procedure. k. Verifies charges entered by the RN in PACU,OPSU, Anesthesia and the OR on a daily basis. l. Clarifies patient billing concerns with appropriate staff. m. Schedules surgical procedure within a timely manner of receiving electronic booking of case (to include comment section) n. Keeps OR schedule blocked 6 months in advance o. Checks to assure correct patient demographics and procedure particulars a on booking slips. p. Types and edits all scheduling information to keep current. Attendance Adheres to Attendance and Punctuality Policy, which includes but is not limited to: a. Reporting to work on time and when scheduled. b. Taking breaks per policy. c. Requesting time off with appropriate lead time.
