3 South Surgical
3 South Surgical Unit is a dynamic, fast-paced unit that provides comprehensive care for adult patients with complex medical, cardiac, vascular, and post-operative needs. Our team specializes in caring for patients with acute cardiac conditions, complex medication management, and cardiovascular procedure recovery. Staff develop advanced clinical skills through the care of a diverse patient population requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring. Team members utilize a multidisciplinary approach to deliver high quality; patient-centered care focused on stabilization, treatment, recovery, and education.
Charge Nurse provides shift leadership and coordinates staff workflow to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality patient care. Supports clinical operations, addresses patient care concerns, and provides direct nursing care, including assessments, treatments, care coordination, education, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Job Description:
Under the direction of Unit Director, Clinical House Supervisor, +/or Designee:
Provides supervision of workflow and staff for a designated shift in overseeing the efficient functioning of the department.
Assures the provision of patient care, by addressing performance, risk management, patient, family and physician issues/concerns as appropriate.
The Charge Nurse is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.
As a clinical nurse, the charge nurse spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:
Active Kentucky RN license.
Basic Life Support- Applicants will have 30 days from their hired date to provide completion of this certification if they don't have it already.
ACLS and/or other designated unit specific certification training/requirements.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or currently actively pursuing a BSN degree. (BSN degree must be completed within 5 years of starting program).
Minimum of one year of Registered Nurse experience.
