Full job description

Amergis Educational Staffing is in need of Licensed and Unlicensed Special Education Substitute Teachers for the 26/27 school year.

Position Overview

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a productive and orderly classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute follows lesson plans, supports student learning, and ensures student safety while adhering to school policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  1. Follow lesson plans and instructions left by the regular teacher

  2. Deliver instruction and facilitate learning activities as assigned

  3. Assist students with understanding assignments and completing tasks

  4. Adapt instruction as needed to meet diverse student needs

Classroom Management

  1. Maintain a safe, respectful, and structured classroom environment

  2. Implement classroom rules and behavior expectations

  3. Manage student behavior and address disruptions appropriately

Student Supervision

  1. Supervise students in the classroom and during transitions (e.g., lunch, recess, dismissal)

  2. Ensure student safety at all times

  3. Follow school procedures for emergencies and incidents

Communication & Reporting

  1. Document student attendance

  2. Communicate any issues, concerns, or notable events to school administration

  3. Provide feedback or notes for the regular teacher regarding the day’s activities

General Duties

  1. Follow school policies, procedures, and district guidelines

  2. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA

  3. Support overall school operations as needed

Qualifications

Education

  1. High school diploma required

  2. Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred

  3. Must meet Massachusetts substitute teaching requirements

Experience

  1. Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred

  2. Classroom or childcare experience is a plus

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  2. Ability to manage a classroom effectively

  3. Flexibility and adaptability in different classroom settings

  4. Basic instructional and organizational skills

  5. Patience and ability to work with diverse students

Work Environment

  1. Classroom setting across various grade levels and subjects

  2. Assignments may vary daily by school and classroom

  3. Active role involving standing, walking, and supervising students
