Full job description

Description We are looking for a Planning Technician to support planning and permitting activities in Hillsboro, Oregon. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who combines strong administrative skills with the ability to assist the public and internal teams on zoning, land use, permitting, and addressing matters. The role blends customer interaction, records coordination, and technical document support to help keep planning operations accurate, organized, and responsive.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the intake, tracking, and status updates of land use requests, permit submissions, and related planning applications.

  • Serve as a point of contact for residents, applicants, and staff by answering questions about zoning, addressing, land use procedures, and permit-related processes.

  • Examine submitted materials to confirm required information is included and identify whether applications meet established submission standards.

  • Maintain accurate departmental files, databases, mapping records, and address data to support daily planning operations.

  • Draft and prepare public notices, routine correspondence, reports, and other documentation used by the planning team.

  • Research parcel details, zoning designations, and property records, then relay findings to internal stakeholders and community members as needed.

  • Provide administrative support to the department through records organization, document handling, scheduling coordination, and general office assistance. Requirements • At least 2 years of relevant experience in planning support, permitting, administrative coordination, records management, or a related environment.

  • Experience working with permitting or permit management software is required.

  • Strong customer service and verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized, manage detailed information, and handle multiple deadlines effectively.

  • Background in data entry, database maintenance, and records administration.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, site plans, and zoning-related information.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience in municipal, planning, land use, or community development settings is preferred. TalentMatch®
