Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Architecture Studio Lead to join our Science & Technology team in our Western NY offices!

At Colliers Engineering & Design, we excel at developing highly technical facilities and utilizing advanced technologies to support the research, development, manufacturing, and distribution of products for our clients. Our deep understanding of industry insights enables us to create innovative, and customizable solutions to help meet rapidly expanding business goals, demands, and facility needs.

From initial concept development and project design to project execution and closure, our Science & Technology team navigates clients through all phases of development for the biotechnology, grow facilities, healthcare, life sciences, materials manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals industries, making us the one-stop-shop for all our client needs.

This position will lead a high-performing architectural team while shaping the strategic direction and growth of the practice. This leadership role combines operational excellence, business development, and technical oversight to drive productivity, profitability, client satisfaction, and project success. Working closely with regional leadership, you'll oversee project delivery, strengthen client relationships, mentor and develop staff, and champion collaboration across disciplines.

As a key leader, you will guide teams through all phases of project execution, support business development and proposal efforts, manage financial performance, and ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and service. Success in this role requires a balance of strong leadership, technical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for developing talent and growing the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, directs, and manages the work effort of assigned architectural staff.

  • Performs duties in support of the direction and vision of the overall discipline.

  • Collaborate with other managers and leadership within the region.

  • Responsible for productivity, profitability, client satisfaction and quality of work.

  • Active involvement with marketing and business development.

  • Responsible for proposal development and contract execution.

  • Responsible for billings and collections.

  • Monitors work backlog and the sharing of work within the region and discipline.

  • Actively involved in the cross selling of all company services.

  • Reviews staff utilization regularly to address employees not meeting utilization goals.

  • Ensures compliance with and enforces company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

  • Serve as a resource for project managers and staff on assigned projects and manage completion of projects regarding scope, schedule, quality, and budget.

  • Provide staff/managers with technical assistance and supervision in the preparation of proposals and contracts for assigned projects.

  • Coordinate and work closely with accounting/billing to develop and review project invoices, monitoring those of assigned billing managers. Complete all billing in a timely manner.

  • Assist with project manager’s efforts to prepare for and/or attend client/agency meetings with, or for PMs to present information pertinent to the project. Develop innovative, comprehensive multimedia support materials for client and/or agency meetings.

  • Develop the skills and abilities of staff which are necessary for successful execution of work duties. Serve as a mentor and coach staff.

  • Assist with the quality control/quality assurance efforts on all assigned projects.

  • Manage the performance of all assigned staff, conduct performance evaluations, provide input for all raise and bonus discussions.

  • Address any performance issues on a timely basis and work with HR as needed to create performance improvement plans.

Qualifications

  • 12-15 years of related experience in Architecture design for buildings projects.

  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture required.

  • Masters Degree in Architecture preferred.

  • Professional licensure in New York State required.

  • Proven ability to manage and lead an office and staff members in a cross-discipline environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and efficiently, planning, organizing, and managing procedures, protocols, and/or staff to achieve desired outcomes for projects and programs.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $133,000 to $212,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
