The Department of Law, Division of Criminal is recruiting for an Investigator 1 for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) within the Office of Special Prosecutions! This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Conduct initial investigations of providers who are suspected or known to have committed Medicaid fraud, patient abuse or neglect or misappropriation of recipient assets.
- Receive and document all incoming allegations, interview initial complainant(s), gather background information, prepare discovery, court exhibits, various types of evidence, maintain case information in a digital case management system, maintain the unit’s inventory, including monitoring of all investigative equipment, and organize case files and evidence for closing, archiving and/or disposition.
- Work closely with the unit’s staff, its attorneys and with various federal and state investigators and agencies.
Mission and Values/Culture: The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is a federally mandated and funded investigative and prosecutorial unit consisting of attorneys, criminal investigators, a forensic accountant, and a paralegal. The mission of the unit is to investigate and prosecute fraud by healthcare providers, healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacies and other healthcare related providers that illegally divert Medicaid funds. The MFCU is also responsible for investigating and prosecuting abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of any patient in any licensed facility as well as abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of any Medicaid recipient.

The office is located downtown Anchorage at 310 K. Street, Suite 308.

- Criminal Investigation: Knowledge of the guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with criminal investigation, including evidence detection and handling and drawing appropriate factual inferences and conclusions.

- Criminal Law: Knowledge of state and Federal criminal laws, including procedures, regulations, guidelines, and precedents related to admissibility of evidence and prosecution.

“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS For your application to be evaluated you must answer the Supplemental Questions. The State of Alaska (SOA) uses four levels of proficiency to measure and describe an applicant's level of competence in applying certain behaviors, knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The proficiency levels are Mastery, Fluency, Literacy, and Discovery. You will need to rate your proficiency for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.
BACKGROUND CHECK The Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) is utilized in this position. A background check and fingerprinting will be required. The incumbent will be required to obtain APSIN access, which will be done through the office.
