Summary

Join the NIH Clinical Center as a Supervisory Medical Records Administration Specialist, GS-0669-13, serving as Assistant Chief for Health Information Management Operations. Lead critical programs supporting patient care and groundbreaking clinical research while applying your expertise in health information management, coding, documentation integrity, and operations to advance quality, innovation, and the NIH mission.

Duties

Serve as Assistant Chief for Health Information Management Operations by leading and overseeing the daily operations of the Coding and Abstracting, Documentation Analysis, and Record Processing Sections within the Health Informatics Division (HIMD). Supervises subordinate section chiefs and provides direction on priorities, performance, staffing, and operational issues. Develops and recommends staffing, budget, technology, training, equipment, and contractor resource requirements. Establishes operational goals, work plans, and performance objectives aligned with HIMD and Clinical Center priorities. Ensures accurate, complete, and compliant diagnostic and procedural coding, including complex and rare disease cases. Oversees clinical documentation analysis and improvement activities to strengthen documentation quality, patient safety, and research data integrity. Directs electronic health record processing, scanning, indexing, quality control, and record integrity activities. Oversees case mix index management, coded data quality, and rare disease coding and reporting activities. Develops, reviews, and implements policies, procedures, and process improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, compliance, and customer service. Advises HIMD and Clinical Center leadership on health information management operations, emerging challenges, resource needs, technology, and strategic improvements. Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1. Lead Health Information staff and subordinate supervisors overseeing coding, clinical documentation, and health record processing; 2. Manage daily Health Information Management operations, priorities, resources, workloads, and performance improvements; 3. Provide expert oversight of coding, documentation integrity, case mix, provider queries, and data quality; 4. Direct Electronic Health Record (EHR) and document-management system development, testing, implementation, and workflow improvements; and 5. Developed Health Information Management policies, ensured regulatory and accreditation compliance, and advised senior leaders and clinical stakeholders.
