Job Description

A Fortune 500 Retail client in the Bowling Green, KY area is seeking a Project Manager to serve as the owner of their large-scale ammonia refrigeration expansion and replacement project at their facility. This individual will be responsible for overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and contractor performance throughout design, construction, commissioning, and startup phases. The Project Manager will act as the primary liaison between their company and the design/build contractors, ensuring successful project execution while maintaining compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. Other daily responsibilities include:

  • Monitor project scope, budget, schedule, and overall contractor performance throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Review and manage contractor invoices, budgets, and change order requests.

  • Coordinate and facilitate engineering design reviews at key project milestones.

  • Conduct project status meetings and provide ongoing schedule and progress reporting.

  • Audit safety programs, perform site safety inspections, and verify compliance with project safety requirements.

  • Review quality control plans, installation inspections, and construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

  • Coordinate testing, inspections, startup activities, and final system commissioning.

  • Support Process Safety Management activities, including documentation review, PHA participation, MOC reviews, and PSSR coordination.

  • Coordinate project activities with plant operations teams to minimize production disruptions during equipment tie-ins and system cutovers.

  • Manage project documentation including submittals, operating manuals, record drawings, warranty documentation, and compliance records.

  • Attend weekly onsite construction and project review meetings focused on safety, schedule, quality, and budget performance.

Skills and Requirements

  • Experience managing Ammonia projects of $10M or more
  • Project lifecycle ownership (concept to design, SOP creation, vendor management, validations, and handoff)
  • 5+ years of experience working with both prime and subcontractors for construction & expansion projects (managing contractor schedules, reviewing project budgets, and validating invoices and change orders.)
  • Experience with capital project systems (Oracle, Smartsheets, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree
  • RETA certification or similar ammonia refrigeration certification.
  • Experience participating in PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), MOC (Management of Change), and PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Review) activities.
  • Knowledge of IIAR standards, ASHRAE standards, OSHA regulations, and ammonia refrigeration system compliance requirements.
  • Experience working within food manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or refrigerated distribution environments.
