General Engineer, AST - Engineering Program Management (Direct Hire)

Summary

As a Program Executive within the Exploration Science Strategy and Integration Office (ESSIO), you will act as a senior integrator and technical leader responsible for ensuring the formulation, implementation, and execution of lunar science investigations and missions. You will manage end-to-end development of payloads on robotic and human systems, oversee requirements, acquisitions, schedules, risks, and performance across multiple groups within NASA and across multiple external stakeholders.

Duties

• Oversee end-to-end formulation, development, integration, and execution of lunar robotic and human mission science instruments, ensuring technical rigor, timely delivery, and alignment with science and mission requirements.
• Review lunar science solicitations and provide technical advice to selecting officials for awards. Aid in formulation of studies for future lunar science missions. Provide engineering guidance and subject matter expertise to Artemis science teams.
• Conduct comprehensive engineering reviews of exploration system plans, evaluating payload requirements, and ensures science objectives are fully integrated into exploration documents, governance boards, and formal review processes.
• Evaluate allocations on human/robotic platforms to ensure feasible payload integration; supports instrument definition, interface development, and technical coordination; proposes engineering strategy science payloads within mission manifests.
• Establish, and put into practice, lessons learned for all flight missions and payload developments. Document and develop efficiency strategies contributing to continuous improvement of office practices and policies.
• Chair the Risk Management Board, directing identification and resolution of programmatic and technical risks to the overall exploration portfolio.
• Drive collaboration, gap identification, needs assessments, resource alignment, and performance monitoring. Strengthen communication pathways across offices, Centers, Mission Directorates, resolving coordination gaps to ensure mission execution.
• Represent ESSIO in Science Mission Directorate reviews and other Mission Directorate control boards and working groups, including Artemis and Moon Base forums, to ensure integrated, science-aligned decision-making across the exploration portfolio.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
