Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?

As Director of Accounting, you’ll serve as a senior finance leader and strategic business partner for Generac’s Power Generation business group. You’ll lead the month-end close, financial reporting and analysis, primary working capital management, budgeting, forecasting, and decision support that helps leaders improve cash flow, profitability, cost efficiency, and execution.

You’ll lead a team and partner with the President of Power Generation, the CFO, and leaders across engineering, product management, operations, supply chain, strategic sourcing, and commercial functions. This is an opportunity to shape financial discipline and insight across one of Generac’s largest business groups while developing a high-performing team.

Responsibilities

  • Month-End Close: Lead and manage the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statement preparation. Coordinate deliverables across the finance team and cross-functional partners, review key judgments and account activity, resolve issues, and strengthen close discipline, controls, and continuous improvement.

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversee monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies and U.S. GAAP. Analyze actual results compared with budget, forecast, and prior periods; identify key drivers, risks, and opportunities; and communicate monthly financial results and recommendations to the CFO and business group executive leadership.

  • Primary Working Capital Management: Lead analysis of accounts receivable and inventory, including production costs and variances. Partner with operations, supply chain, strategic sourcing, and commercial leaders to identify root causes and provide actionable insights that improve cash flow management, profitability, inventory efficiency, and cost performance.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Drive the budgeting and forecasting processes for product costs, operating expenses, and primary working capital. Establish assumptions, challenge inputs, evaluate risks and opportunities, ensure alignment with business group goals, and identify cost control and productivity opportunities.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a team of four direct reports. Set clear priorities and expectations, build technical and business-partnering capabilities, provide timely feedback, support succession and development planning, and foster a culture of accountability, high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration & Support: Serve as a trusted finance partner to leaders in engineering, product management, operations, supply chain, and strategic sourcing. Provide financial insights, scenario analysis, and recommendations to support decision making, resource allocation, product and cost initiatives, and operational improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including significant responsibility for financial reporting, planning, analysis, and business partnership.

  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing finance professionals.

  • Demonstrated experience leading month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and executive-level financial analysis.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial statements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or other relevant advanced degree or certification.

  • Experience in a complex manufacturing, consumer products, or multi-channel business environment.

  • Public-company experience and knowledge of internal controls and financial governance.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with SAP, Power BI, and OneStream.

  • Experience analyzing inventory, accounts receivable, production costs, standard costs, and manufacturing variances.

  • Demonstrated success influencing executive and cross-functional leaders through financial insight and recommendations.

  • Experience leading process improvement, reporting automation, and finance transformation initiatives.
