Full job description

Description

Robert Half Legal is working with a legacy client - a firm we've placed numerous people at over the years - seeking a REMOTE litigation associate. This person can be junior, with only a year of litigation experience in CA required, or more tenured as well. Pay is commensurate with experience.

A strong preference is for this person to be local to Southern California, though anywhere in the state will suffice.

Responsibilities of Role:

  • Will be responsible for:

  • Product liability and silicosis defense

  • Attending depos

  • Answering discovery

  • Drafting pleadings, motions, pre-trial reports

  • Performing risk analysis

  • Reviewing medical records (though paralegals do most of this)

Billable requirement: 1900 billable, but 100 hours can count that’s typically non-billable (networking, CLEs, conferences), pro-rated for date of hire (“there is no concern about not meeting it – the work is there!”)

Details of Role:

  • Hours: Attorneys typically work 9 hours per day, hours are roughly 8:30-5:30

  • Profile that would be a fit:

  • Someone who wants to grow their litigation skills and be promoted!

  • Not someone who just cares about clocking in and out, but rather someone who takes initiative and is passionate

  • Someone who wants to do defense work

  • Not someone coming from big law, this is more of a startup mentality (adaptable, not afraid of change, wants to help build)

  • Someone from insurance defense or complex litigation would do best.

  • Trial experience would be great if they have it!

  • Someone who is comfortable being trained remotely.

Perks of Company:

  • Majority women-owned

  • A partner leads the DEI efforts – he writes articles, leads seminars, and bakes it into firm culture – and the office celebrate Juneteenth

  • The firm has multiple initiatives to give back to the community: various food banks, domestic violence shelters, and educational efforts

  • 2-week training program is robust, teaching the practice area. They ensure people have the tools they need to be successful.

Benefits:

  • Medical/dental/vision: multiple options for individuals and families

  • Life Insurance: 100% paid for by firm

  • Flexible spending accounts, HSA, Telehealth, EAP, etc.)

  • 401K: The firm matches 100% on the first 3% of contributions and 50% on the next 2%, for a total employer match of 4%. Employees are eligible to begin contributing after six months of service.

  • PTO: Accruals climb with additional years of service.

Requirements

  • Barred in CA, ideally with one year of experience (at minimum, experience billing out time)

  • Interest in being a litigator
