About the role

As a Senior Mainframe Developer, you will make an impact by designing, enhancing, and supporting reliable healthcare claims applications that help enable accurate and efficient claims processing. You will be a valued member of the Application Development and Maintenance team and work collaboratively with business analysts, quality assurance professionals, project managers, support teams, and onsite and offshore engineers.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.

  • Translate business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant mainframe solutions that support claims adjudication workflows.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, conduct code reviews, and implement sustainable fixes.

  • Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, code migration, production deployment, post-implementation validation, and backout activities.

  • Provide technical leadership to offshore team members, coordinate onsite and offshore delivery, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve project goals.

What you need to have to be considered:

  • 8+ years of strong hands-on experience developing mainframe applications with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.

  • Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and related business workflows.

  • Knowledge of code migration and release management, including package creation, environment promotion, deployment validation, and backout procedures.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex application and production issues.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively in an Agile, onsite and offshore delivery environment.

These will help you stand out:

  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to distributed engineering teams.

  • Experience conducting code reviews and improving mainframe application performance.

  • Experience supporting system integration testing, user acceptance testing, production deployments, and post-production activities.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to business and technology stakeholders.

Salary and compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between $65,000 to $117,000 per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
