Job Duties

The Mental Health Professional, Clinical Trainee, or Mental Health Practitioner provides school-based mental health services to children and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns, communication challenges, or family conflict. Responsibilities vary based on qualifications and may include diagnostic assessments, individual and family therapy, and mental health skills services. Clinical and day-to-day supervision is provided as required based on the position and level of licensure.

Licensed Mental Health Professionals are preferred; however, qualified Clinical Trainees and Mental Health Practitioners are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education Required

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of one of the following:

o Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and 2000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to recipients with mental illness or substance use disorder required.

o Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and has completed an internship/practicum with direct interaction with adult or child clients.

o Has 4000 hours of work experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with a mental illness or substance abuse disorder.

Minimum Experience Required

Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.

Demonstrated ability to interact with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Able to work independently within established guidelines and with limited supervision and assistance.

Able to travel to and from meetings with families, school officials, and other agencies.
