The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Oversees operations for all inpatient, outpatient and/or clinical pharmacy services within the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and its affiliates. Supervises all staff pharmacists and other functional unit managers to ensure safe and efficient medication management for all patients in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Works collaboratively to provide pharmacy services to all patients of URMC and its affiliates. Provides direction for the development and implementation of new programs and services to enhance patient care and/or services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides direction and oversight for pharmacies at UR and its affiliates, including direct supervision of staff pharmacists, supervising pharmacists, technician supervisors, and other leadership. Maintains contact with the members of the medical staff and other professional and administrative staff to serve as liaison to resolve patient care issues.

Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations to promote appropriate patient care and safety, including accreditation and licensing requirements and formal professional standards pertaining to drug distribution, utilization and control. Maintains and troubleshoots pharmacy information systems when appropriate, including monitoring of security restrictions and auditing. Maintains role as system administrator of Pharmacy Information System, Controlled Substance systems and other automation in Pharmacy.

Develops, implements, and monitors plans for recruitment, interviewing, training, competency and performance reviews of all staff pharmacists. Provides direction and opportunity to individual staff members for professional development to strengthen the individual’s capabilities, as well as those of the department.

Identifies opportunities for expansion and improvement of pharmacy services to inpatient, outpatient and clinical areas, including staffing assessments, clinical opportunities, and evaluation of automation or other technology to enhance patient care.

Identifies and suggests budget recommendations. Controls personnel, supply, and expense budgets of assigned pharmacies. Coordinates and oversees business plan implementations, renovations, constructions, relocations, and evaluates technology/automation to further enhance pharmacy operations. Determines, justifies, and recommends capital equipment requirements.

Provides documentation/data specific to medication use to staff/specialists within and outside the department to maintain proper Quality Assurance goals and medication use tracking.

Participates in key committee memberships and maintains a leadership role within these groups when appropriate.

Acts as pharmacy resource for Office of Council or Nursing leadership to address issues around adverse medication events or diversion of controlled substances. Provides direct supervision of medication storage and distribution for assigned pharmacies. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission medication management standards.

Actively participates in teaching opportunities within URMC, as well as in the community. Maintains contact/membership with local and national organizations and participates in educational meetings when appropriate.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and 5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy required

Master's degree preferred

Or equivalent combination of education and experience

3 years of experience in pharmacy management required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist in New York State upon hire required
