Patient Food Service Host– PRN Location: AdventHealth Lenexa City Center Schedule: PRN Job Summary The Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) Attendant enhances the patient experience by providing exceptional meal service, assisting patients with meal selection, assembling and delivering trays, and ensuring adherence to prescribed dietary requirements. This position serves as a key point of contact between patients and Food and Nutrition Services, utilizing a computerized diet office system and knowledge of therapeutic diets to support patient satisfaction and nutritional care. The role is responsible for meal service accuracy, service recovery, patient rounding, and maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant environment while promoting excellence in customer service and patient-centered care. Essential Functions

  • Assists patients with meal ordering utilizing computerized diet office systems and approved meal ordering technology.

  • Guides patients through menu selections while ensuring choices comply with prescribed diets and nutritional guidelines.

  • Provides personalized meal recommendations to enhance patient satisfaction and dining experience.

  • Reviews and verifies patient dietary requirements to ensure meal accuracy and compliance with physician orders.

  • Assembles patient meal trays according to therapeutic diet standards, presentation guidelines, and department procedures.

  • Delivers patient meals accurately and timely while verifying patient identification and meal assignments.

  • Ensures patients receive correct meal trays and confirms all dining needs are met before leaving the patient room.

  • Rounds on patients and nursing units to evaluate meal satisfaction, identify service concerns, and provide service recovery when needed.

  • Investigates and resolves patient and customer concerns promptly, professionally, and effectively.

  • Maintains accurate patient meal records and updates dietary information as required.

  • Communicates effectively with nursing staff, dietitians, and other healthcare team members regarding patient meal needs and dietary concerns.

  • Supports departmental quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives.

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of workspaces, equipment, tray line areas, and service equipment.

  • Stocks food service supplies and maintains inventory levels within assigned areas.

  • Follows food safety, infection prevention, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and patient confidentiality standards.

  • Performs physically active duties, including extensive walking, standing for extended periods, pushing meal carts, and working shifts up to 12 hours in length.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, visitors, nursing staff, and team members both in person and by telephone.

  • Ability to handle customer interactions in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.

  • Ability to utilize common software applications and hardware, including iPads, ToughBooks, and computerized diet office systems.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred.

  • Ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment preferred.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of Nutrition Services software preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while processing meal orders and delivering trays.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.

  • Ability to maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention standards.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Field of Study

  • N/A

Work Experience

  • Food service, healthcare, hospitality, customer service, or patient service experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ServSafe Certification preferred.

Pay Range:
