Accountant

Description

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join a team in California for a long-term contract opportunity. This role is best suited for an organized individual who can step into a hands-on accounting environment, manage core financial activities, and support day-to-day accuracy across multiple processes. The position is primarily onsite and offers the chance to contribute meaningful support to the growing defense industry while partnering with colleagues across operational and finance workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Perform regular reconciliation of inventory records and bank accounts to ensure financial data is complete and accurate.

• Oversee accounts receivable activities, prepare customer invoicing, and help maintain timely collection and cash application processes.

• Review and compile expense reports, verifying supporting documentation and following internal approval procedures.

• Support consignment-related accounting tasks and maintain organized records tied to inventory and billing activity.

• Validate financial and operational data during ongoing system-related work, identifying discrepancies and helping resolve issues promptly.

• Assist with process testing and document procedures or training materials to support team adoption and consistency.

• Prepare journal entries and contribute to general ledger maintenance and month-end close activities.

• Work closely with the accounting team to identify issues, raise questions when needed, and proactively support daily priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field.

• At least 5 years of accounting experience, with the ability to perform at an Accountant or Senior Accountant level.

• Prior background in public accounting is preferred.

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and spreadsheet analysis.

• Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, journal entries, expense reporting, and general ledger activity.

• Ability to apply sound judgment, think critically through issues, and communicate questions clearly when clarification is needed.

• Proven record of accountability, initiative, and follow-through in a detail-focused accounting environment.

• Must be comfortable working primarily onsite in San Luis Obispo, California
