Position Overview

Leveraging strengths in design, innovation and operational excellence, the company takes a people-centered, customer-focused, and growth-minded approach to meet diverse market needs. It creates differentiated customer experiences through its expansive portfolio of brands: Anderson Tuftex, COREtec, Shaw Floors, Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Shaw Contract, Shaw Sports Turf, Shawgrass, Southwest Greens, Watershed Geo and more. Headquartered in Dalton, Georgia, Shaw is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. with more than $5 billion in annual sales and approximately 18,000 associates worldwide.

The Residential Designer for Laminate & Resilient Flooring (supporting our Product Portfolio & Market Strategy) identifies consumer needs, interprets market and design trends, and translates insights into commercially successful hard-surface flooring products and collections for Shaw Residential. This client-facing role works closely with specialty retailers, Sales, and cross-functional partners to understand what is missing from the portfolio and define what products the business should introduce, why they are needed, and how they support the broader brand and portfolio strategy. The Designer provides the market-facing creative vision that guides product decisions, with an emphasis on consumer insight, trend research, design direction, communication, and commercial opportunity. This role requires frequent travel to customer meetings, market visits, product reviews, and industry events. This role will work in a hybrid way approximately four days a week in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather the voice of the customer through specialty retailer visits, market travel, Sales partnerships, and discussions about new launches, displays, portfolio gaps, and emerging needs.

  • Translate customer feedback, consumer insights, competitive activity, and design trends into product recommendations, color palettes, collection strategies, product assortments, and design direction.

  • Develop and deliver compelling design, trend, portfolio, and product presentations for customers, Sales teams, internal partners, and senior leaders.

  • Partner with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Category, and other brands to align product recommendations with customer needs, brand positioning, and business priorities.

  • Evaluate portfolio performance, competitive activity, emerging trends, and gaps within existing product lines to identify current and future commercial opportunities.

  • Lead and support portfolio reviews, line reviews, customer presentations, strategic planning sessions, and go-to-market discussions.

  • Build trusted relationships with customers and internal partners, gather meaningful feedback, and create alignment around product direction and priorities.

  • Develop a working knowledge of hard-surface flooring products, construction, manufacturing, and technical considerations to effectively support customers, Sales partners, and product development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Product Design, Textile Design, Industrial Design, Marketing, Consumer Insights, or a related field.

  • Two to five years of professional experience in product design, interior design, trend research, portfolio strategy, merchandising, or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of color, design trends, consumer preferences, and brand positioning.

  • Ability to translate research, customer feedback, market observations, and consumer insights into actionable design and product recommendations.

  • Confidence presenting ideas and recommendations to customers, Sales teams, internal partners, senior leaders, and groups of varying sizes.

  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently for customer meetings, market visits, product reviews, and industry events and work in the office 4 days per week.

Highly Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in residential interior design or the design of laminate, resilient, wood, or other hard-surface flooring products.

  • Experience in flooring, home furnishings, building products, interior products, or a related residential design industry.

  • Experience presenting design concepts, trends, product strategies, or portfolio recommendations to customers and business leaders.

  • Experience in a customer-facing design, account management, or sales-focused role.

  • Experience developing product assortments, collection strategies, color palettes, or category roadmaps.

  • Experience conducting competitive analysis and identifying product or portfolio gaps.

  • Experience translating consumer and customer insights into commercially successful product strategies.
