Full job description

Job Title: Assembly Operator III

Location: Fairview, NC (Relocating to Arden, NC in the future)

Shift: 2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)

Pay Rate: $24.20/hr ($22/hr + 10% Shift Differential)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Assembly Operator III to join our team in Fairview, NC, with future job relocation to Arden, NC. This role involves working directly with fiber optics, including optical connector assembly, termination of fiber optic cable assemblies, and product testing. The Assembly Operator III will support process development, troubleshoot assembly issues, and ensure high-quality products for our customers.

Bonus and retention award opportunities may be available upon completion of training milestones and continued satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, polish, and test fiber optic cables and connectors

  • Package fiber optic components as needed

  • Terminate single and multi-fiber cables

  • Operate fiber routers and complete over-molding processes

  • Support prototype, test, and pre-release product builds

  • Measure components using calipers, gauges, or other devices

  • Complete operational paperwork to ensure product traceability

  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor repairs

  • Assess and apply proper cleaning methods in optical assembly

  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently; identify and report issues

  • Suggest process improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency

  • Communicate clearly within a team environment

  • Inspect own work against company quality standards and specifications

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and company policies

  • Maintain housekeeping and organization of work areas

  • Work overtime as needed to meet production goals

  • Work in a clean room environment wearing required garments and PPE

Requirements:

  • Ability to distinguish between color-coded fiber optic cables

  • High School diploma or GED (preferred)

  • Minimum 1 year of assembly manufacturing experience; familiarity with Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity principles

  • Minimum 1 year of fiber optic assembly experience (preferred)

  • Experience with SAP Manufacturing and ISO 9001 standards (preferred)

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills

  • Familiarity with hand tools and blueprint reading (preferred)

  • Experience working with small parts, including microscope use

  • Strong time management skills; able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Attention to detail when following bills of material, job routers, and drawings

  • Team-oriented mindset; able to collaborate effectively

  • Accountability and respect for confidential information

  • Safety and quality-conscious work attitude

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to remain stationary for up to 75% of the shift

  • Ability to operate machinery and move between work zones

  • Proficient understanding of written instructions in English
