Job Description

Seeking a Controls Design Engineer to support the design of HVAC Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial and institutional facilities. This individual will develop control system designs, sequences of operation, and technical documentation that optimize HVAC performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort while supporting projects from design through commissioning.

Day-to-Day Design HVAC control systems for air handlers, VAVs, chilled water, hot water, central plants, and related mechanical systems. Develop control schematics, points lists, sequences of operation, and BAS submittal packages. Review mechanical and electrical drawings to ensure proper controls integration and functionality. Select control devices, sensors, actuators, and field hardware for HVAC applications. Coordinate with mechanical engineers, project managers, programmers, and field technicians throughout project execution. Support commissioning efforts, troubleshooting, and creation of as-built documentation. Assist with energy optimization strategies and implementation of high-performance building controls.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline. Experience reading HVAC mechanical plans, control drawings, and electrical schematics. Understanding of HVAC systems including AHUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, pumps, and cooling towers. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and building systems. Strong communication and project coordination skills. Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites as needed. Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, Alerton, or Schneider Electric. Exposure to HVAC controls design, programming, or commissioning. Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other controls communication protocols. Familiarity with energy management, retro-commissioning, and building optimization projects. Understanding of DDC programming and control logic. OSHA 10/30 certification or prior field experience supporting mechanical contractors or controls integrators.
