We are hiring a Software Engineer - UI at BCBST!
In this role, you will play a key part in transforming critical internal claims applications into modern browser-based applications. You will design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Vue.js 3+, TypeScript, and modern front-end technologies while partnering closely with business analysts, product owners, technical leads, and backend developers. This position offers the opportunity to serve as the front-end subject matter expert for the team, driving UI modernization efforts, establishing development best practices, mentoring other developers, and helping shape the future architecture of internal applications that support core business operations. You will build scalable, reusable components, integrate with RESTful APIs, implement secure authentication solutions, and leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
To be successful in this role, in addition to the core job requirements, you'll bring strong front-end engineering expertise, a passion for modern web development, and the ability to lead UI modernization initiatives. You will be a strong candidate for this role if you have hands-on experience with Vue.js 3+, TypeScript, Single Page Applications (SPAs), PrimeVue or similar enterprise UI frameworks, REST API integrations, and OAuth/OpenID Connect authentication. Experience with Tailwind CSS, component library design, state management frameworks such as Pinia, Agile development practices, automated testing, and integrating front-end applications with enterprise backend services will help you excel in this role. Candidates who enjoy modernizing legacy applications, mentoring teammates, and driving technical best practices will be especially successful.
Note:
- This is a remote, work-from-home position, but the final round of interviews will take place on-site in our Chattanooga, TN office.
- Candidates must be available to work Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours.

Job Responsibilities
- Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.
- Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
- Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
- May serve one or more project team roles, such as project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead, for small to medium efforts or manage phases of medium to large efforts.
- Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
- Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
- Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.
Experience
- 1 year - Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required
- 3 years - Systems and programming experience required
- 1 year - Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.
Skills\Certifications
- Proven skill with information technology in use at BCBST is required
- Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel.
- Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic.
