Full job description

Sanitation Lead

Shift: Third Shift: M-F 10:15pm-6:30am

Travel between both sites required

Reports to: Sanitation Manager

Position Summary

The Sanitation Lead coordinates nightly sanitation activities and works alongside the team to

complete assigned cleaning tasks safely, correctly, and on time. This position supports compliance

with sanitation procedures, food safety requirements, and company policies, helping prepare

equipment and production areas for the next shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assign daily cleaning tasks according to the sanitation schedule and priorities established by the

Sanitation Supervisor or Manager.

  • Work alongside sanitation employees and provide clear instructions on cleaning methods, chemical

use and required personal protective equipment.

  • Monitor cleaning progress and verify that equipment, utensils, floors, drains, washrooms, and other

assigned areas meet sanitation requirements.

  • Ensure employees follow approved SOPs, chemical concentrations, contact times, allergen controls,

and procedures to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Confirm that equipment is released for cleaning and that required equipment safety procedures are followed before work begins.

  • Inspect completed work and coordinate any necessary recleaning before requesting QA verification or release, when required.

  • Complete and review sanitation records, cleaning checklists, and shift reports accurately.

  • Monitor supplies and report shortages, damaged tools, equipment issues, and maintenance needs.

  • Communicate staffing concerns, incomplete tasks, safety hazards, and food safety issues promptly to the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager.

  • Support training for new employees and reinforce established procedures with the team.

  • Coordinate with Production, QA, and Maintenance to address sanitation needs during the shift.

  • Provide a clear shift handoff identifying completed work, pending tasks, and issues requiring follow-up.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of previous sanitation experience in food manufacturing required.

  • Previous experience leading or training employees preferred.

  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing procedures, chemical handling, GMPs, and food safety practices.

  • Ability to organize assignments, communicate clearly, and follow up on task completion.

  • Ability to read and complete cleaning instructions, checklists, and sanitation records.

  • Ability to work independently and respond to changing operational priorities.

  • English and Spanish communication skills required!

Working Conditions

  • Overnight work in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling cleaning tools and equipment.

  • Exposure to wet areas, cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.

  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Overtime and weekend availability as needed
