By joining the Division of Water's Surface Water Permits Branch as an Environmental Engineer Supervisor of the Municipal Section in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to lead a team in preparing Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permits for publicly-owned treatment works and providing technical and scientific assistance on permitting for this regulated community.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer Supervisor position will complete tasks such as:

• Supervise a team of employees in the Municipal Section including, but not limited to, approving and denying leave requests, approving timesheets, providing coaching to staff, completing staff evaluations, etc.

• Review draft permit documents for KPDES discharge permits to Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants prepared by staff to determine compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

• Provide technical assistance regarding environmental statutes and regulations related to KPDES permit applications and permitting documents, the Pretreatment Program, the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s) Program, and the Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) compliance program.

• Represent the Division at meetings and conferences as it relates to KPDES permitting activities and conducts site visits as required.

• Act as an expert witness at hearings regarding the KPDES permitting program.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.http://kyboels.ky.gov/Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
