Lockheed Martin is looking for a Summer Electrical Engineering Intern to join the System Integration Team in Sunnyvale, CA supporting Space System Programs. As a System integrator intern, you will support end-to-end integration of space systems across hardware, software, and operations domain.

This role is ideal for engineering students with electrical/electronic/computer engineering project/internship experience who will develop Ai model(s) to assist in the development, integration, verification, and validation of spacecraft and satellite electrical subsystems throughout the system lifecycle. This role is responsible for translating mission needs into technical requirements, managing requirements traceability, supporting subsystem integration activities, and executing verification and validation plans to ensure compliance with mission and customer objectives.

The role will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including avionics, power systems, communications, flight software, guidance/navigation/control (GNC), thermal, mechanical, manufacturing, and test organizations.

This position will be on-site full time.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting senior level system integrator in the following areas:

Systems Integration & Engineering Support

  • Support system integration planning across spacecraft subsystems (avionics, propulsion, power, thermal, structures, software, communications) interfaces and mission-level architecture

  • Maintain system level configuration management, requirements decomposition, interface definition, and traceability using DOORS and CAMEO

  • Develop and maintain system documentation such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), integration procedures, test plans, and verification matrices and help track verification closure and configuration status

Verification, Validation

  • Develop Ai model(s) to assist in verification of subsystem including:

  • Electrical Power System (EPS)

  • Battery systems

  • Solar arrays

  • Command & Data Handling (C&DH)

  • Flight computers

  • Communications payloads

  • Sensors and avionics

  • Analyze subsystem interfaces and ensure ICD compliance.

  • Participate in hardware/software integration activities.

  • Support integration planning, and anomaly detection resolution (ADR).

  • Verification & Validation (V&V)

  • Develop verification and validation strategies for spacecraft systems.

  • Create:

  • Verification Plans

  • Verification Procedures

  • Test Plans

  • Test Reports

  • Execute verification methods including:

  • Test

  • Analysis

  • Inspection

  • Demonstration

  • Support environmental qualification activities:

  • Thermal Vacuum (TVAC)

  • Assist in planning and executing integration, test, and verification (IT&V) activities

  • Help track verification closure and configuration status

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate technical inputs across engineering teams to ensure compatibility and interface alignment

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, avionics, propulsion, ground systems, and operations teams

  • Support integration reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR)

  • Prepare technical documentation, briefing charts, and status reports

Basic Qualifications

  • Majoring in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering

  • Completed first 3 years of college level core course work in respective majors

  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree in Electrical engineering, computer engineering with experience supporting electrical subsystem integration and testing.

  • Completed at least 1 summer of engineering internship experience

  • Exposure to test environments, research lab, lab integration, or environmental testing in past engineering internships

  • Active Secret Clearance or higher

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $33.51 - $38.71

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
