Job Title: Software Integration EngineerJob Description
This role supports next-generation autonomous vehicle platforms by integrating, validating, and troubleshooting software, electrical, and communication systems. You will work hands-on with prototype and pre-production vehicles, collaborating closely with software, systems, and vehicle integration teams to deploy software releases, integrate vehicle hardware, support wire harness builds and modifications, and diagnose complex issues across vehicle networks and embedded systems. The position is ideal for someone who combines strong software integration experience with a solid understanding of automotive electrical systems, wire harnesses, and vehicle communication protocols.
Responsibilities

Integrate and validate software releases on autonomous vehicle platforms, ensuring reliable performance across all vehicle systems.

Install, configure, and troubleshoot embedded software, firmware, and vehicle-level applications to support development and fleet operations.

Support vehicle bring-up activities for prototype and pre-production vehicles, including initial configuration and system readiness checks.

Perform wire harness installation, routing, modifications, repairs, and continuity verification to maintain robust electrical connectivity.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings to guide integration and troubleshooting activities.

Diagnose software and hardware integration issues using CAN, Ethernet, and a variety of diagnostic tools to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Collect software logs and vehicle network data to support detailed root cause investigations and system-level analysis.

Flash electronic control units (ECUs) and verify successful deployment of software updates across vehicle systems.

Conduct vehicle-level functional testing and system verification to confirm proper operation of integrated software and hardware.

Collaborate with software, controls, systems, and hardware engineering teams to resolve integration issues and improve system robustness.

Support autonomous vehicle testing, development activities, and fleet operations through hands-on work with vehicles and test setups.

Document defects, test results, and corrective actions within engineering tracking systems to maintain clear records and traceability.

Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and configuration management processes throughout integration and test activities.
Essential Skills
-
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related technical field.
-
3+ years of experience supporting software integration, vehicle electronics, or embedded systems in a hands-on engineering or technician role.

Experience with software deployments and ECU flashing, including verification of successful updates on vehicle platforms.
-
Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, including harness integration, troubleshooting, and repair.
-
Hands-on experience with CAN-based vehicle networks and related communication protocols.
-
Ability to use basic electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and network analyzers.
-
Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and wiring documentation.
-
Demonstrated troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for both software and hardware integration issues.

Comfort working directly on prototype vehicles and development hardware in a dynamic engineering environment.

Solid foundation in software integration for embedded and vehicle-level applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

IPC-A-620 Certification in cable and wire harness assemblies.
-
Experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for cable and wire harness work.

IPC J-STD-001 certification for soldered electrical and electronic assemblies.
-
Experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) development.
-
Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, INCA, or similar software.
-
Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line utilities for integration, diagnostics, and automation.
-
Experience supporting hardware-software integration activities across complex embedded systems.
-
Understanding of Ethernet, CAN FD, LIN, SOME/IP, and UDS diagnostics and their application in modern vehicle architectures.
-
Experience building, modifying, or validating prototype wire harnesses for development and test vehicles.
-
Python or Bash scripting experience for automation, data collection, and diagnostic workflows.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role on a day shift schedule, working directly with prototype and pre-production autonomous vehicles and development hardware in a hands-on engineering environment. The position involves regular collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, use of electrical test equipment and diagnostic tools, and active participation in vehicle testing and fleet operations. Overtime opportunities are likely available for those interested, providing additional exposure to cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology and development activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
