The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it partners with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications, as well as videography and photography.

The Photographer/Videographer captures the people, moments, and details that define Wesleyan’s identity. The position works across portraits, events, campus life, and editorial assignments, producing imagery that is authentic rather than staged. The Photographer/Videographer is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, execution, and delivery of high-quality, on-brand photo assets.

Reporting to the Manager of Multimedia, the Photographer/Videographer is a member of a collaborative, dynamic, and strategic multimedia team. While the position primarily focuses on photography, it also shoots and edits small video projects and records video for University projects as needed. The position works closely with the Social Media Manager and others within the Office of Communications to support the University’s communications goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Capture the people, moments, and details that define Wesleyan’s visual brand.

  • Develop creative concepts and produce visual content that supports the University’s brand and storytelling objectives.

  • Perform post-production tasks such as photo retouching, color correction, and resizing.

  • Catalog and maintain raw and edited photo content and project assets using a digital asset management system and internal storage servers.

  • Participate in group critiques and team meetings regarding completed and upcoming productions.

  • Maintain, transport, set up, operate, and break down photography and video production equipment for on- and off-campus shoots.

  • Plan, shoot, and edit video projects from conception through final delivery using Canon mirrorless cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.

  • Assist with larger University video productions by operating video cameras and related production equipment.

This is an on-campus position. Earliest start date for the position will be early December.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of professional photography experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Experience using photo and video editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite applications such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

  • Experience developing and editing raw photographs into engaging visual materials, including social media content.

  • Experience using professional camera systems and production equipment, including mirrorless cameras, strobes, lighting equipment, and modifiers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members and campus partners.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with photography subjects, including providing direction and helping individuals feel comfortable in front of the camera.

  • Experience planning, shooting, and editing short-form video content.

  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving ability.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

  • Experience managing and archiving photo and video assets and consistently applying established file-naming conventions to raw and final approved files.

  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing photography assignments, including portraits, events, and editorial or institutional photography.

  • Ability to transport, set up, operate, and break down photography and video production equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, for on- and off-campus assignments.

  • Availability to work some weekend and evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in photography, film production, multimedia production, communications, journalism, or a related discipline.

  • Five years of professional photography and video production experience.

  • Advanced experience in videography.

  • FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.

Portfolio

Please submit a photography portfolio and at least two video work samples. For each video sample, briefly describe your role and specific contributions to the project, including your involvement in pre-production, production, and post-production (e.g., planning, storyboarding, camera operation, lighting, and editing).

Position is open until filled. For full consideration, please apply by October 22, 2026 when first review of applications will begin.

Compensation: $63,100-$74,400
