Job Title: Engineering TechnicianJob Description
The Engineering Technician works in a Class 1,000 cleanroom environment to set up and operate production equipment, execute manufacturing plans, and troubleshoot equipment and product issues. This role collaborates closely with Engineering to resolve manufacturing challenges, supports the Waveguide (WG) Manufacturing Department in meeting production goals, trains manufacturing personnel, and ensures compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements and established quality objectives.
Responsibilities

Support production schedules and help achieve established manufacturing targets for the Waveguide Manufacturing Department.

Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with technical specifications, quality requirements, and operational standards.

Operate production equipment, manufacturing systems, and robotic machinery as required to meet daily production needs.

Assist with the setup, calibration, and operation of machines, CNC equipment, and precision machining tools.

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, equipment malfunctions, and process failures in a timely and effective manner.

Provide support to Manufacturing Engineers on process improvements, equipment validation, and production-related activities.

Collaborate with Engineering to address manufacturing challenges and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Train manufacturing personnel on proper equipment operation, process steps, and quality standards to ensure consistent output.

Use test equipment and precision measuring instruments to verify product quality and adherence to specifications.
-
Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment by adhering to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
-
Comply with ISO 9001:2015 quality management system requirements and complete all required training to support applicable quality objectives.

Document work performed in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, and manufacturing procedures.

Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned that are consistent with the core functions of the role.
Essential Skills
-
High school diploma or equivalent.
-
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a Manufacturing Technician or related role; equivalent experience in machining or a relevant technical certification or degree will also be considered.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
-
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment, process, and production-related issues.
-
Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
-
Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and hand tools, including calipers, clamps, and similar equipment.
-
Basic understanding of quality control principles, inspection techniques, and manufacturing best practices.

Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, product quality, and continuous improvement.
-
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
-
Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger movements associated with manufacturing activities, equipment operation, and data entry.
-
Ability to sit for extended periods, communicate verbally, hear, and utilize close vision to perform detailed tasks.

Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.

Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing and cleanroom environment for extended periods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associates degree in an Engineering discipline preferred.

Associates degree or other two-year technical degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience working in a cleanroom manufacturing environment.
-
Experience assembling, testing, or handling optical components, photonic devices, or related optical products in a manufacturing or production setting.
-
Experience working with small electronic devices, components, and assemblies in a manufacturing or production environment.
-
Knowledge of CNC machining, including machine setup, operation, and basic programming.
-
Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes and equipment used in high-technology production environments.
-
Experience with mechanical and optical manufacturing processes, including assembly and troubleshooting.
-
Comfort using test equipment and tools commonly found in production and engineering environments.
Work Environment
This position is based in a high-technology manufacturing facility and requires working in a Class 1,000 cleanroom environment for extended periods. The role involves frequent sitting, close visual work on detailed tasks, verbal communication, and repetitive hand and finger movements related to equipment operation, assembly, and data entry. Materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds may occasionally be lifted, carried, pushed, or moved. The workspace is organized, safety-focused, and operates under ISO 9001:2015 quality management system requirements. Cleanroom protocols, including appropriate attire and adherence to strict cleanliness and contamination control procedures, are an integral part of the daily work environment. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Henrietta, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
