Patient Access Representatives deliver what matters most to our patients and their families, ensure exceptional experiences and thrive on making positive impacts in the community. As a Patient Access Representative, you will pre-register and greet patients in the Emergency Department, verify information and collect copays for diagnostic services and pre-register patients for outpatient services. Your role is essential to ensuring a seamless model of access for patients, physicians and family members and setting the tone for how their visit to the Emergency Department goes.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM - 3:00PM or 11:00AM - 7:00PM.

Please note that if you are selected, you will need to attend a 2-week EPIC training starting on your first day. The training is Monday-Friday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM on-site at Akron General. You will need to attend all days of this training. Once the training is complete, you will then start work on your assigned schedule/shift. In order to be considered, you will need to acknowledge that you are able to attend the full duration of the training.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform registration and complete an accurate face-to-face interview to obtain demographic, insurance, medical and financial information.

  • Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED and cash register.

  • Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.

  • Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role with in person or phone contact

  • OR an Associate's Degree and one year of experience

  • OR a Bachelor's Degree

  • Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year

  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • EPIC knowledge

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.

  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.

  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.75

Maximum hourly: $21.65
