Full job description
This position performs customer service duties in support of the licensure and tax collection activities of the department.

Receives and processes applications pertaining to business licenses, alcoholic beverage licenses, home inspectors, taxicab services, pawnshop services, second-hand jewelry services, and tree services.

Computes and assists in the calculation of occupation taxes, excise taxes, franchise taxes, right-of-way agreements, discounts, penalties, and interest due, excise tax reporting, and franchise tax reporting.

Collects and records occupation tax payments, hotel/motel excise tax payments, alcohol distributor excise tax payments, mixed drink excise tax payments, car rental excise tax payments, and right-of-way agreement tax payments.

Provides information to the general public in the processing of business licenses and certificates of occupancy; determines if applications are in accordance with policies and procedures.

Reads and interprets documents received from other departments and agencies relating to the processing and issuance of business licenses.

Makes business license coding determinations utilizing the North American Industrial Classification System.

Performs a variety of clerical and administrative functions involving data entry, typing, and filing.

Enters, researches, and retrieves information and reports from computer databases in order to provide information and copies of documents to the general public and other departments.

Composes routine correspondence pertaining to the issuance and compliance of various licenses types.

Balances cash drawer till daily against license system report totals.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of records maintenance and information retrieval.

Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, local ordinances, and department policies and procedures.

Skill in utilizing various computer software programs.

Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

Ability to resolve problems in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
-
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
-
Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize work; set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.

Proficiency with the use of computers, including Microsoft Office programs.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee must occasionally lift light objects.

- Hearing 1 – perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.

- Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
- Manual Dexterity – picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.
- Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
- Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
- Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
- Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word.
- Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
- Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
- Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
The work is typically performed in an office, library, or computer room.
