Department: Financial Management, Patient Accounting Administration

Location: 150 Monument Road, Bala Cynwyd, PA/hybrid

Summary:

Working under limited supervision, the Manager, Hospital Billing is responsible for leading, prioritizing and planning the billing operations in Patient Accounting. The individual is responsible for designing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, as well as streamlining effective billing processes across multiple markets. They will establish monitoring controls to assess accurate and timely submission of claims through the use of available technology; maintain communication with third-party payors to ensure compliance with billing requirements; manage the Billing Department personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily billing work flow and inventory, which includes resolving billing deficiencies and identifying billing system improvements.

  • Ensure third-party compliance with respect to regulatory and contractual changes.

  • Plan and implement quality assurance for all billing processes.

  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of third-party claims.

  • Manage the Billing Staff by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and allocation to maximize efficiency of the Billing Department.

  • Manage the transmission and receipt of all electronic and paper claim submissions.

  • Manage special projects as assigned.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Credentials:

  • AAHAM Certification - [Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE) and/or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS)]. Must be certified within first year of employment.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma is required.

  • 5+ years of management-level experience in hospital billing is required.

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with EPIC is preferred.
