Summary

This vacancy is for a Supervisory Advanced Practice Nurse position in the Administrative and Customer Support Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau HQ in Suitland, MD. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Supervisory Advanced Practice Nurse, 0610-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Duties

  • Oversees and manages the planning of on-going health promotion programs, including the annual health fair, wellness blood screenings, CPR training, ergonomics training, support groups, annual flu immunization program, etc.
  • Supervises, organizes, directs, and coordinates activities of Occupational Health nurses, medical support assistants, program assistants and contracted staff.
  • Performs a wide range of nursing duties, including assessment and treatment of illnesses and injuries on the job, physical examinations for job requirements/certifications (i.e., motor vehicle operators), and screening tests.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Advanced Practice Nurse, at GS-0610-13, you must meet the minimum and/or basic qualification requirements listed below. Basic Requirements Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. AND Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: planning and organizing health and wellness programs; leading teams of medical support staff; and conducting physical examinations/screenings to diagnose and treat illness and/or injuries. Education: Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience at this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.

How You Will Be Evaluated

Panel Review: You will be evaluated according to your responses to the online questionnaire and the use of a Panel Review. During the Panel Review, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will review your resume to determine your qualifications for this position based on the required specialized experience and demonstration of competencies as described below. Upon completion of the panel review, candidates identified as best qualified will be referred to the hiring manager and may be invited for an interview. Category Rating Procedures: If you meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job opportunity announcement and scoring requirements for all applicable assessments, you will be placed in one of three pre-defined categories. These categories are "gold," "silver," and "bronze." Candidates placed in the "gold" category will be identified for referral to the hiring manager and may be invited for an interview.
