Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced tax and small business accounting specialist to join a collaborative firm in Greenfield, Wisconsin. This position focuses on preparing tax filings for individuals and businesses while supporting clients with day-to-day accounting and financial reporting needs. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information in a clear, practical way.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individual and business clients, partnering with firm leadership to address complex tax matters.

  • Examine client financial records for accuracy and completeness, identify missing documentation, and follow up to gather needed information before filing.

  • Research tax rules and trace variances or inconsistencies in supporting data to help ensure accurate reporting.

  • Provide accounting support for small business clients by handling payables, receivables, general journal activity, and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Produce financial statements and discuss results with clients in a straightforward manner that supports informed business decisions.

  • Keep client accounting data current and well organized within QuickBooks Online and other firm tax and accounting platforms.

  • Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation activity, and tax planning assignments as requested.

  • Maintain orderly workpapers and coordinate competing deadlines across multiple client engagements.

  • Contribute ideas that strengthen accounting processes and improve workflow efficiency as the practice continues to expand.

  • Foster strong client relationships through timely communication, dependable follow-through, and attentive service. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience preparing tax returns for both individuals and business entities.

  • Working knowledge of small business accounting principles and financial statement preparation.

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with individual tax return preparation, corporate tax return preparation, and general tax compliance work.

  • Familiarity with CCH ProSystem or CCH ProSystem fx is preferred.

  • CPA or Enrolled Agent credential is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, organization, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.
