Description
Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to assist library patrons with services and basic use of library resources.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Drives and works on Bookmobile.
Registers new patrons.
Assists patrons with placing and retrieving reserves.
Sends materials to other libraries as requested.
Answers phone calls, provides information, takes messages, and routes calls.
Schedules meetings and classes.
Assists library patrons with check-out and return of all formats of materials including print, media and digital materials.
Process returns, reserves and library material shipments.
Accurately makes change, processes credit card transactions, counts money and reconciles daily money transactions.
Collects fines for lost materials.
Answers basic questions about and assists with library technology such as copiers, fax machines, public computers and digital resources.
Assists with library programs, outreach, and promotion.
Reviews information in both print and digital formats.
Order supplies.
Performs Library Page L/U duties as required.
Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must work a varied schedule.
Must provide proof of age of at least 18 years or older.
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management including mandatory overtime and performing any related work.
Must provide one's own source of reliable transportation.
Must travel to other locations to assist with library operations as needed.
Ability to communicate with individuals in person by utilizing all types on communication media.
Must be able to sort materials alphabetically and numerically.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Spends prolonged periods sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping, squatting, climbing, lifting, and pushing/pulling.
Frequently lifts and moves items weighing up to 35 pounds.
Operates office equipment.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
