Job Title: Cleanroom Lab Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on managing chemical bath analysis and process control across metal finishing lines, including anodizing, plating, etching, sealing, and cleaning. The technician performs wet chemistry testing, maintains chemical tanks within defined operating parameters, supports environmental and safety compliance, and ensures accurate digital data logging. The position also involves authoring and updating laboratory procedures so they reflect actual shop-floor practices and support continuous improvement.
Responsibilities

Perform routine and complex wet chemistry analyses, including titrations, pH and conductivity testing, and bath component determinations for anodizing, etch, seal, plating, and cleaning tanks.

Calculate and execute chemical additions, adjustments, and bath maintenance to keep all process lines within defined operating parameters.

Troubleshoot baths that are out of specification and coordinate corrective actions with production and quality teams.

Focus on safe and efficient chemical handling, chemical analysis, chemical safety, and the smooth operation of the Laboratory Department.

Prepare all chemical tanks for processing, ensuring proper concentrations and readiness for production.

Assist the Laboratory Supervisor with monthly in-house testing across all locations.

Operate temperature meters, analyze readings to desired set points, and adjust as necessary to maintain process control.

Operate and calibrate pH meters, interpret results, and adjust tank chemistry as needed.

Manage the operation of the 2% Nitric tank, including replacement, neutralization, and safe disposal of solutions.

Monitor and oversee pH levels and solutions for various tanks to maintain consistent chemical conditions.

Control and verify etching rates related to caustic tanks, Nitric/HF tanks, and hot acid tanks.

Perform chemical tank dumps, cleanings, and exchanges in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.

Author, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and Quality Operating Procedures (QOPs) to reflect current operating practices.

Identify and resolve discrepancies between documented procedures and shop-floor execution, standardizing procedures across shifts.

Maintain and organize version-controlled documentation, lab test methods, and chemical safety protocols.

Enter analytical results, bath readings, titrations, and chemical additions directly into electronic logs, BrixIQ, and ERP databases in real time using desktop computers and shop-floor tablets or iPads.

Convert legacy paper log sheets into digital logging forms and automated tracking sheets to improve data accuracy and accessibility.

Track and chart bath trends electronically to identify bath degradation, drag-out, and contamination before non-conformances occur.

Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in providing clear, concise, and reliable reports and associated data to the Quality Assurance Department and other management groups.

Support the Laboratory Supervisor with SPC (statistical process control) data for tank constituents across all locations, ensuring proper chemical maintenance of all solutions in process.

Carry out daily environmental compliance tasks and interact regularly with management to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.

Assist the Laboratory Supervisor with monitoring and ensuring environmental compliance related to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Ensure PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) compliance for all Laboratory Department employees, including training and proper usage of assigned PPE.

Perform additional laboratory and cleanroom duties as assigned by management to support operational needs.
Essential Skills
-
2 to 4 years of experience in laboratory work with a focus on wet chemistry and chemical analysis.

Hands-on experience working in a cleanroom environment and following cleanroom protocols.
-
Proficiency in performing titrations, pH and conductivity measurements, and bath component determinations for chemical processing tanks.
-
Strong chemical handling skills and knowledge of chemical safety practices in a production or laboratory setting.
-
Ability to operate, calibrate, and interpret readings from pH meters, temperature meters, and related analytical instruments.
-
Experience preparing, maintaining, and cleaning chemical tanks used in anodizing, plating, etching, sealing, and cleaning processes.
-
Competence in monitoring and controlling etching rates for caustic, Nitric/HF, and hot acid tanks.
-
Strong digital literacy, including entering data directly into electronic logs, BrixIQ, and ERP systems using PCs and tablets.

Ability to author, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Quality Operating Procedures.

Understanding of environmental compliance requirements related to chemical processes and wastewater treatment.

Knowledge of PPE requirements and safe usage in a chemical laboratory and cleanroom setting.

Ability to use microscopes and other basic laboratory equipment for inspection and analysis.

Experience supporting production environments and working closely with quality and operations teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in cleanroom assembly or production work is beneficial.

Experience with digital transformation of paper-based records into electronic formats is an advantage.

Familiarity with SPC (statistical process control) methods for monitoring tank constituents.

Comfort working with ERP systems and specialized software such as BrixIQ for process tracking.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing documentation and lab records.

Clear written communication skills for creating and updating technical procedures and reports.

Ability to collaborate effectively with laboratory, production, quality assurance, and environmental teams.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Redwood City, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
