Full job description

Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a growing construction organization. This role is ideal for a driven, detail-oriented finance leader who enjoys balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a fast-moving paced. The successful candidate will guide core financial processes, support business planning, and partner with leadership to strengthen reporting accuracy and operational performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct day-to-day accounting activities across general ledger management, payables, receivables, billing, and cost tracking functions.

  • Oversee the monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely reporting and accurate financial results.

  • Prepare financial statements and management reports that provide clear insight into company performance and support executive decision-making.

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts by analyzing trends, monitoring variances, and helping leadership plan for future growth.

  • Manage construction-related accounting matters, including job costing and revenue tracking, to maintain strong financial control across projects.

  • Support tax-related financial activities by coordinating documentation, reviewing relevant data, and working with external advisors when needed.

  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, setting expectations, reviewing work, and fostering a collaborative, accountable team environment.

  • Maintain and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial workflows to support efficiency and accuracy in a changing business environment.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including ownership of full-cycle accounting processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

  • Prior experience within the construction industry is required.

  • Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.

  • Working knowledge of accounts payable, billing, receivables, and cost accounting practices.

  • Experience with corporate tax matters or prior public accounting tax exposure is strongly preferred.

  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, clients, and internal teams.

  • Proficiency with accounting software commonly used in construction environments, along with strong Excel capabilities.
