Department: College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (Col)

Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time

Months Per Year: 9

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the department, college, and university.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

Required qualifications. (1) A PhD in Modern Japanese or East Asian Studies, specializing in literature, translation, linguistics, cultural studies, or a closely related field; (2) native/near native proficiency in Japanese; (3) an active research agenda with peer-reviewed publications related to field of specialization; and (4) the ability to teach Japan-related upper-level and graduate courses in different delivery modes, within and beyond the candidate’s area of specialization.

Preferred qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications: (1) teaching experience in higher education; (2) willingness to develop and teach courses in one or more of the following Japan-related subjects: literature, translation, linguistics, and cultural studies; and (3) demonstrated potential for external funding.

We seek scholars whose research agendas complement existing departmental strengths in literature, theory, cultural studies, film studies, and translation.
