Job Description Summary

The Professional Writing Tutor (Part-Time Temporary) in the Charles Mills Writing Center works directly with specific student populations, as reflected by the candidate’s specialization and/or expertise. While candidates who can work with graduate students are sought, the director acknowledges support will extend beyond this singular demographic.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain regularly scheduled tutoring hours weekly.

  • Work approximately 8 – 10 hours a week for the writing center.

  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.

  • Provide additional support beyond direct tutoring (ex. handouts, workshops, content creation, etc.).

  • Interact with students both in-person and virtually.

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

  • B.A. Degree.

  • Exceptional recent Undergraduate candidates considered.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate cannot be a current student at Nazareth University.

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

  • M.A. Degree in English or related field.

  • Tutoring and/or teaching experience.

  • Experience with a variety of writing tasks.

  • Experience with specific student populations (ex. graduate students, developing learners, etc.).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The director might ask for minimal supervisory duties beyond contributing at staff meetings.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to either physically work with clients in-person or to work with them virtually, synchronously or asynchronously.

Equipment to be used

  • A device to access client documents (ex. a laptop).
