Job description
Summary:
The HSE Intern has the responsibility to assist the HSE Manager in maintaining and continuously improving the facility's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program. Under the guidance of the HSE Manager, the intern will contribute to two key projects focused on risk assessment development, documentation, and HSE training, while also supporting daily HSE activities, compliance efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develop, implement, and support strategies aimed at preventing workplace injuries, occupational illnesses, and environmental incidents.
•Conduct detailed accident and incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and assist in developing corrective action plans using industry-recognized methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, 8D).
•Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe work practices and equipment, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, as needed.
•Audit line management and operations teams to ensure HSE policies, procedures, and standards are effectively implemented and sustained.
•Assist in performing chemical evaluations in accordance with Safran policies to identify hazards and minimize risks to personnel and the environment.
•Perform risk assessments related to chemical, environmental, physical, and ergonomic hazards, and support the implementation of effective control measures. Verify and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.
•Support the documentation and management of risk assessments and associated action plans within Safran's HSE platform.
•Interface with regulatory agencies (DOT, state, and local regulators) as needed to support compliance activities.
•Promote a positive HSE culture by encouraging employee engagement, participation, and ownership of health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
•Support HSE awareness campaigns, training activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
•Regular, predictable attendance is required.
•Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
•Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%).

Candidate skills & requirements
Education and/or Experience:
•Student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree (or international equivalent) in Occupational Safety, Environmental health or a related discipline
•Some working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and standards;
•Flexible team player with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced environment.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
