The Endocrinology unit focuses on the endocrine system, hormones, and related diseases. The department studies hormones, which are chemical messengers produced by glands that travel through the bloodstream to regulate various bodily functions, including metabolism, growth, and reproduction. As an RN for Endocrinology, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care from initial introduction to final send-off while providing professional nursing care to a specified group of patients in a variety of ambulatory care settings. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families, and visitors, providing an opportunity to enhance their experience and offer healthcare information as needed.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform telephone triage.

  • Notify physicians/LIPs of abnormal findings.

  • Establish a care plan in collaboration with the patient, family, and health care team.

  • Collaborate with care coordinators to ensure smooth and effective transitions of care.

  • Assist with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physician/LIP and monitor patients for response.

  • Participate in quality initiatives, process improvements, and research activities to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, and patient safety.

  • Maintain professional growth and development in the nursing field and identify annual core competencies.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN program)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • *In areas performing moderate sedation procedures and/or cardiac stress testing, must have current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through American Red Cross Certification within six months of hire

  • One year of recent experience as an RN

  • OR LPN, Medical Assistant and/or other unlicensed clinical healthcare experience if applicant is a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in an ambulatory setting transferring into an RN role but remaining in the same current ambulatory Cleveland Clinic setting

  • OR a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in a clinical role within the same specialty area transferring into an ambulatory area

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Endocrinology background

  • IV skills

  • Strong clinical skills

  • One year RN experience

  • Ambulatory experience (adults)

  • Experience with procedures at the bedside

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • May requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
