ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL)

Summary You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the Submarine Electrical Branch (Code 275), Electrical Engineering Division, Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will provide pre-planning and waterfront electrical engineering services for submarine work. You will prepare and perform review of all drawings, material specifications, technical working documents (TWDs), and test procedures. You will provide technical guidance for and prepare procedures for conducting tests on various electrical equipment and systems. You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installations, grooming repair, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts. You will conduct investigations of electrical failures or damages and prepare reports. You will serve as a technical consultant for acceptable substitutes for materials which are not available. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying practical engineering methods to support shipboard electrical systems by assisting in the preparation of technical documentation (such as wiring diagrams, schematics, and ship alterations). Experience gathering and analyzing field data and performing physical inspections and testing under the guidance of a senior technician or engineer. Experience in the layout, testing, inspection, or troubleshooting of shipboard electrical components. Experience working with power generation and conversion systems, power and lighting distribution systems, emergency generators, electrical propulsion control systems, internal communication systems, metering and alarm systems, and SUBSAFE systems. Experience applying working knowledge of the technical constraints, safety protocols, and physical interface requirements. Experience conducting electrical technician work aboard nuclear-powered submarines, specifically encompassing operations within nuclear propulsion plant cognizant compartments and containment boundaries.
