Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler plays a key role in the daily flow of freight within a large, modern warehouse. This position focuses on unloading, sorting, palletizing, and presenting approximately 800 packages per day for processing, while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. You work on your feet throughout the shift, moving across a 220,000 sq ft facility to support material handling, recycling, and general warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

  • Unload incoming freight and ensure it accurately matches the shipping manifest.

  • Sort, palletize, and present packages to receivers for processing in a timely and organized manner.

  • Efficiently store freight in designated areas to support intake and receiving operations.

  • Frequently operate reach trucks and forklifts to move and categorize priority freight receipts.

  • Verify package quantities prior to scanning them into the system to ensure delivery accuracy.

  • Assemble kitting pallets and carts and transfer them to the kitting operation as needed.

  • Traverse the warehouse throughout the shift to collect and replace recycling and trash containers.

  • Sweep work areas, remove labels, and assist with scrap pallet collection and disposal to maintain cleanliness.

  • Follow established warehouse procedures and safety guidelines while handling materials.

  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, positive attitude, and strong work ethic in a fast-paced, physically demanding role.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in material handling, general labor, or warehouse operations.

  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs repeatedly throughout an 8-hour shift.

  • Experience with loading, unloading, packing, palletizing, and lifting materials in a warehouse setting.

  • Comfort working on your feet for the entire shift while traversing a large facility.

  • Ability to operate forklifts and reach trucks or willingness to learn and follow equipment safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a material handler, warehouse associate, or general laborer.

  • Experience working with parcel carriers or distribution environments similar to major shipping companies.

  • Experience with inventory, picking, and packing in a warehouse or logistics setting.

  • Comfort working with kitting operations, including assembling pallets and carts for downstream processes.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrated ability to stay focused, attentive, and engaged throughout the shift.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintaining organization and cleanliness.

Work Environment

This role is based in a brand-new 220,000 sq ft warehouse that prioritizes cleanliness, organization, and safety. The facility is extremely well lit with large industrial lighting, creating a bright and comfortable work setting. You spend your entire 8-hour shift on your feet, frequently walking across the warehouse, lifting up to 40 lbs, and handling materials. Multiple weekday shifts are available, including 1st Shift from 10:30am to 7:00pm, 2nd Shift from 12:30pm to 9:00pm, and 2nd Shift from 2:00pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, with regular use of forklifts, reach trucks, and standard warehouse equipment, and a strong emphasis on keeping work areas clean, well maintained, and efficiently organized.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of ADDISON, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.62 - $18.62/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
