C/C++ Senior Engineer

Job Description

A fortune 250 retail company in Memphis, TN is looking for a C/C++ Engineer to assist with a large-scale enterprise modernization initiative that will transform the technology platform supporting over 8,000 retail locations across the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. The current environment consists of a 30+ year legacy architecture with more than 250 applications, proprietary databases, green-screen interfaces, and store-hosted infrastructure. As part of this transformation, this company is modernizing its application stack by replacing legacy systems with modern, cloud-based solutions leveraging React, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This Engineer to play a critical role in analyzing, enhancing, modernizing, and migrating business-critical applications that support store operations. This engineer will work closely with architects, cloud engineers, product teams, and modernization partners to transform legacy logic into scalable, modern solutions while ensuring business continuity across thousands of locations.

Skills and Requirements

8+ years of software engineering experience with C and C++ development. Strong experience supporting and modernizing large-scale legacy applications. Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and system design. Experience developing backend services, middleware, or platform-level applications. Strong SQL skills with experience working in relational databases. Experience with database migration projects (legacy databases to PostgreSQL preferred). Experience working in Linux/Unix environments. Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning capabilities. Experience integrating legacy applications with modern architectures and APIs. Knowledge of distributed systems and enterprise-scale application design. Experience migrating applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Experience using AI-assisted development tools or participating in AI-enabled modernization efforts. Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
